Madam, as I had to start your programme from today, I thought let me have a pizza for the last time!

This is what a new patient said during our fi rst meeting. I said, “Who told you that you won’t be able to eat pizzas aft er you start the programme?” “What are you saying…!” was her fi rst reaction.

This is what is required to be clarifi ed. Diet doesn’t mean you need to starve yourself or eat tasteless food. I will just modify the method of preparation aft er taking into consideration your taste buds which will make your pizza more nutritious. Today, you have talked about pizza but I will give you a variety of food options which you can have for dinner. We will have Paratha, vegetable Pulao, Pasta, South Indian recipes, bhel, chat and many more.

Diet does not mean eating monotonous food and neither does it mean to starve yourself. It is very important to overcome this thought process!

Whenever I go to any wedding functions or dinner parties, people jokingly comment that can we eat standing beside a dietician..! We’ll remain hungry..! For me this was like forcefully becoming a saint..! I have to tell them that by doing this, you are restricting me. It is not necessary that a person always eats the correct food in the correct proportion. Sometimes, it’s fun to break these rules..!! If you allow yourself a day off , you are not going to suff er from diabetes or high cholesterol. Yes, but you can’t keep on taking these breaks every two three days.

“I won’t have anything in the morning as I have to att end a party tonight”. This is what an obese person said to me. I had to explain to him that if you won’t eat anything till evening then you will feel weak, your body’s digestive process or metabolism will be disturbed and you won’t feel like going to the party anymore. And if you do go, you will end up eating much more which your stomach will fi nd it hard to digest.

Functions and parties have become a part of our lifestyles now. When we see the whole world enjoying around, then we too would want to eat and enjoy. All these are very natural things. But now we seem to gain weight.

How do we manage this..??
