The article on the previous page is the advertisement of my clinic which appears in the leading newspapers of Gujarat. Just one look and you’ll be surprised. Many think it is sheer bluffing. How can we lose weight by eating so much..?? Also, the concept of losing weight is very complicated. Talking about my personal experience, even I tried various methods to lose weight when I was overweight.

Many advertisements appear in newspapers and magazines for losing weight. And most of them would read, “LOSE WEIGHT WITHOUT ANY MEDICINES” but when you inquire about it, they hand over expensive powder packets claiming that these are not medicines but are natural products which are prepared directly from plants and herbs and cannot be termed as medicines.

Also, most of the weight reduction centers guarantee a lot of weight reduction in a very short span of time, but when you go there you realize that the concept of eating is missing..!! Many of you would agree that the only thing they prescribe is less eating or no eating and with it comes the medicine packet which you are asked to consume daily. The consumption of this so-called powder or medicine leads to diarrhea resulting into loss of water from the body. Now, it’s a well-known fact that even water has weight and so when there is a loss of water from your body, the weighing scale is bound to show some weight loss. YESS..!! Now you know the trick..!! But this doesn’t mean that you’ve lost some body fat. All of this aff ects the body adversely and you suff er from weakness, giddiness, and hypoglycemia. For how long can you go on like this..?? A person gets tired and his hopes are shattered as he realizes that he has taken the wrong path.

And when it comes to beauty, it can be said that even if a woman does not have enough money to purchase some basic necessities, she will still go to the parlour to have her eyebrows done..!! And this is what keeps the market running. In these circumstances, it is understandable that a person can have doubts regarding any of the slimming methods. I don’t charge people who come to me, for the first meeting. Instead, I assure them that I don’t prescribe to any kinds of medicines and neither do I encourage fasting. But the focus should be on the right food at the right time. You don’t have to indulge into any type of vigorous exercises but you only have to do those exercises which you can practice life-long. In most of the cases, I have observed that in the beginning, a highly enthusiastic person starts going for a long walk or starts swimming or even joins a gym for that matter, but all these cannot be continued for long and you start putting on weight again, the moment you stop all of these. The reason being that now you have reduced the exercises you were doing or have stopped it all together. Hence, for obtaining a long-lasting benefi t, one should continue it till one lives.

If you want to make long-lasting changes in your lifestyle then you need to take into consideration your age and your body capacity along with all other social responsibilities. Excessive exercises or excessive fasting is not going to yield permanent results. This is not some kind of a viral or bacterial infection which can be cured by taking a fifteen day’s medicinal course. For ideal weight maintenance, one has to create a lifestyle which can be followed and enjoyed yielding consistent results and satisfaction.
